About Loaf & Lore

Our Journey

Loaf & Lore was born from a love of simple, wholesome ingredients and the magic of storytelling. When my son and brother were diagnosed with food allergies, I began a decade-long quest to master cooking and baking from scratch. What started as a necessity became a passion, as I discovered how sourdough—crafted with care and tradition—offered a nutritious and easily digestible alternative for my family.

My son’s daily ritual of checking the oven for “Yum” after preschool became the spark for my baking adventures. Over time, I combined this love for baking with my fondness for storytelling, creating products that not only nourish but spark joy and imagination.

Each product at Loaf & Lore is thoughtfully crafted using traditional techniques and seasonal inspirations. Whether it’s the earthy depth of matcha, the boldness of squid ink, or the sunny sweetness of apricots, we infuse every creation with care, quality, and a sprinkle of magic.

We also love to weave a tale into every product. From our Kraken’s Ember Loaf to our Fae Flower Loaf, each item comes with a backstory to spark conversations and create memories around the table.

Meet the Baker

Hi, I’m Miqehl—though most people call me Mel! As a lifelong Northern Nevadan, I’ve spent years weaving together my love of baking, storytelling, and family. My journey into the world of sourdough began out of necessity when my son and brother were diagnosed with food allergies, and I needed to create wholesome, allergy-friendly foods from scratch.

What started as a challenge turned into a passion, and I’ve been baking and experimenting for over a decade. Along the way, I discovered a love for bringing magic to the everyday through both my breads and the stories behind them. Whether it’s crafting a loaf inspired by legendary sea creatures or pairing flavors that remind me of my family’s travels, I believe food should be as memorable as it is delicious.
